Join the National Foot and Ankle Registry (BOFAS)

In short

Prof Mason asks patients having foot and ankle surgery to join the British Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (BOFAS) National Foot and Ankle Registry. You answer short questionnaires about your pain, walking and quality of life before surgery and again 6 and 12 months afterwards. It takes a few minutes, helps your surgeon track your recovery and helps improve care for future patients. Joining is voluntary and does not affect your treatment.

How to register

Follow-up questionnaires

Once you have registered, you automatically receive a short questionnaire at three points:

First
Before surgery
Second
6 months after surgery
Third
12 months after surgery

Why join?

  • It lets your surgeon track your recovery and outcomes
  • It helps improve future care for thousands of patients
  • It supports national research and quality improvement
  • It protects access to effective surgery through strong clinical evidence
  • It allows results to be compared nationally to maintain high standards

What is collected?

  • Information about your diagnosis and treatment
  • Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) on pain, walking ability and quality of life

Your data is safe

  • Stored securely under the Data Protection Act
  • Only seen by clinicians involved in your care
  • Never shared with outside organisations
  • You can withdraw at any time without affecting your treatment
